Hello everyone, I am now starting my second year at Ohio State University. I never envisioned myself to be this busy, but at the moment, I have my hands full. From Organic Chemistry to Biology to a class called “Studies in Fiction” to Computer Science, I definitely have my hands full. Just the fact that I am taking two labs this semester, O-chem and Biology, makes things a bit more difficult. And I’m only taking 15 semester hours, not even the maximum load (18 hours). I digress though, O-chem lab is pretty darn interesting. This Wednesday we will be extracting crystalline caffeine from a variety of caffeinated drinks including tea, coffe (of course), and a few others.
In other news, I really haven’t been working on any side projects. As far as my websites go, things are pretty slow right now. Part of that is because I choose to make it that way. Taking two science classes (with labs) really takes up a LOT of time. And of course the Fiction class constantly puts demands on my reading, so that any extra time that is left after the other sciences gets devoted to reading novels. Yay! The Fiction class really is interesting though, so far we have read On Chesil Beach by Ian McEwan and are starting Jane Eyre by Charlotte Brontë. Later on in the semester we will be studying film adaptations and how they alter the content of a novel. In other words, analyzing the differences that a film can bring in terms of visual and temporal perspective in comparison with the original novel.
I am finding out that although Organic Chemistry is tough, I am really starting to like it. This is the same feeling that I had with General Chemistry last year. This is a good thing, considering that my major focuses almost exclusively on the chemistry of pharmaceutics.
Well, it’s getting a little late, and I’m going to try to get a good start to the week. I’ll write more soon!
